Author Publishing Agreement

What happens when you publish a story on StorySloth.

Effective 14 March 2026

🦥

The sloth’s summary: You keep your copyright. We get a non-exclusive, perpetual licence to display your story on StorySloth. You can publish it anywhere else too — just don’t give anyone exclusive rights that would stop us showing it. Your work must be your own and written by you, a human — AI-generated stories are not permitted. If something you submit turns out to be someone else’s work (or a machine’s), that’s on you, not us. You can ask us to remove your stories at any time. We still recommend reading the full agreement below.

This Agreement is between you (“Author”) and Shed Collective Ltd., trading as StorySloth, a company registered in Scotland (Company No. SC387124, VAT No. 142448913). By submitting any content to StorySloth, you confirm you have read and agreed to this Agreement.

1. Definitions

  • “Content” — any text, stories, images, metadata, or other material you submit.
  • “Platform” — the StorySloth website, applications, and related services.
  • “Publish” — making Content available to the public via the Platform.

2. Licence Grant

Non-Exclusive Licence

You grant Shed Collective Ltd. a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, display, distribute, cache, adapt (for formatting), and promote your Content on the Platform, including in marketing materials, social media, and newsletters.

You Retain Ownership

This is a non-exclusive licence. You retain full copyright ownership. You’re free to publish, sell, or distribute your Content elsewhere.

No Exclusive Rights Elsewhere

You warrant you haven’t granted exclusive rights to a third party that would prevent this licence. If you later do, you must notify us immediately.

3. Author Warranties

By submitting Content, you warrant that:

  1. You are the original human author, or have all necessary rights and permissions.
  2. The creative substance of the Content — its narrative, characters, plot, and prose — is your own original work and has not been generated by artificial intelligence, large language models, or similar automated tools.
  3. The Content does not infringe any third party’s intellectual property rights.
  4. The Content doesn’t contain unlawful material beyond what’s appropriate for the stated content warnings.
  5. It hasn’t been submitted under an exclusive licence elsewhere.
  6. You have the legal capacity to enter into this Agreement.

4. AI & Originality

StorySloth is a platform for original human creativity. All Content published on the Platform must be substantially human-authored.

Permitted Use of AI Tools

You may use AI-powered tools for minor editing assistance, including grammar checking, spell-checking, and proofreading. These uses do not affect your status as the original author.

Prohibited Use of AI Tools

You must not submit Content where the narrative, characters, plot, dialogue, prose, or other creative substance has been generated — in whole or in significant part — by an AI system, large language model, text generator, or similar automated tool.

Consequences of Breach

If we reasonably determine that Content has been substantially generated by AI, we reserve the right to:

  • Remove the Content from the Platform without notice
  • Withhold or recover any earnings associated with the Content
  • Suspend or terminate the Author’s account
  • Report the breach to relevant third parties where appropriate

5. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Shed Collective Ltd. from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from breach of the above warranties, or any claim that your Content infringes a third party’s rights.

Shed Collective Ltd. accepts no liability for copyright infringement or plagiarism arising from author-submitted Content. Responsibility rests solely with the Author.

6. Content Review & Moderation

All submissions are subject to editorial review. We reserve the right to:

  • Reject any submission for any reason
  • Request edits before publication
  • Remove Content that violates this Agreement, our Terms, or law
  • Apply content warnings or age ratings at our discretion

7. Revenue Sharing

Authors may be eligible for revenue sharing from subscriber contributions. Terms are set out in the Author Dashboard and may be updated from time to time. Revenue share is at the sole discretion of Shed Collective Ltd.

8. Content Removal

You may request removal of your Content at any time via your Author Dashboard or by emailing editor@storysloth.com. We’ll action it within 7 working days.

9. Authenticity & Provenance

Each published story is assigned a unique reference identifier and may carry an authenticity stamp containing publication metadata. This serves as a record of provenance.

10. Termination

Either party may terminate at any time. Upon termination, we cease publishing new Content. Previously published Content is removed on written request. Outstanding payments are settled per the payment schedule.

11. Amendments

We’ll give authors at least 14 days’ notice of material changes via email or in-app notification.

12. Governing Law

Governed by the laws of Scotland and the United Kingdom. Disputes subject to the courts of Scotland.

13. Entire Agreement

This Agreement, together with the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, constitutes the entire agreement between you and Shed Collective Ltd.
